We woke to the most unusual sight this morning.
An orange glow.

We are in the middle of a dust storm.

Just look at those beady eyes!!

The crow is back. Stealing the hen's eggs, and eating their food.

But we have systems in place.

The laying box has been turned around to face the back wall of the coop.

The coop's door has been wedged open, with just enough room for the hens to squeeze in and out.

Apparently the crow does not like to be in an enclosed space, with no easy escape route.

We are winning in the egg stealing stakes this week.

Cushions

I adore cushions. I don't think a person can have too many.

This is in direct contrast to the rest of my family. They complain about having to find a place to put them when they go to bed, or sit on a lounge.


I was excited to find some delightful tea towels at Spotlight recently. I had to buy them immediately, knowing there was a project waiting to happen with them.

Then I found some plain linen cushion covers at IKEA. Yay!!
And those tea towels found a new use.

I think they go beautifully with the pillow slips Vanessa bought me for my birthday this year.

District 9
This is a powerful movie that deals with apartheid. Extremely thought provoking and challenging, hard to watch at times as it stirs such strong emotions, but totally worth the experience.



District 9 is a 2009 science fiction film directed by Neill Blomkamp, written by Blomkamp and Terri Tatchell, and produced by Peter Jackson. The film stars Sharlto Copley, Jason Cope, and Robert Hobbs. Copley plays the role of Wikus van der Merwe, a bureaucrat assigned to relocate a stranded alien species from a refugee camp in Johannesburg to a new one outside the city. After being exposed to a substance that will slowly transform him into an alien, Wikus must become a fugitive to help the aliens escape the planet and save his humanity. The story, adapted from Alive in Joburg, a 2005 short film directed by Neill Blomkamp and produced by Sharlto Copley, deals with the issues of xenophobia and social segregation. The title and premise of District 9 were inspired by historical events that took place in South Africa during the apartheid in a residential area of Cape Town named District Six. The film was produced for $30 million and shot on location in Chiawelo, Soweto, presenting fictional interviews, news footage, and video from surveillance cameras in the style of a documentary. Paint

I love paint.
It is such an easy way to change a look.

This weekend I began to paint our outdoor drinks trolley red.

And our dining chairs black...

and purple.

The girls were interested... maybe it is time for their coop to get a makeover.

Balloons
I have to say I really dislike balloons.

Not all balloons!

Balloons at parties are good.
Balloons at other people's places are good.
Balloon at shopping centers are good.

Balloons at my place are BAD.

They cause so many arguments. (Who owns it? Whose turn is it to hit it around the TV room?)

They cause so much mess. (Finding sad, old bits of rubber under the couch or beds a few weeks later.)

They cause so much anger in me. (Stop fighting over a silly inflated piece of rubber. And I can't watch TV with that thing bopping around me!!)

I saw the Young Victoria this week.
It was just wonderful!!
I didn't want it to end.
